A person or company planning to launch a food business in India must register with or receive a food licence from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). A mandated specification is present in almost 90% of food products, according to FSSAI. Only ocean items fall beyond the purview of FSSAI and as a result, a production involving farmers and fishermen. Obtaining an FSSAI food licence typically takes two months, and takes six months for a product to be approved for market release.

FSSAI Registration Process
1. FSSAI registration starts with the submission of Form A (application) to the department of food and safety.
2. Within seven days of the application date, the Department will either approve or reject this application; in either case, the applicant must be notified in writing.
3. If the application is approved, the department will provide a registration certificate that includes the applicant's photo and licence number.
4. Throughout business hours, FBO must clearly display the registration certificate on the premises.

Properly filled out Form B that is signed by the proprietor, partner, or designated signatory
A blueprint or schematic displaying the processing unit's dimensions in metres or square metres and the space allocation for each operation (mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only)
A list of the society's or trust's executives, partners, and directors, together with their complete addresses and phone numbers (mandatory for companies only)
Name, list, installed capacity, and horsepower of all equipment and machinery included (mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only)
Identity and address proof furnished by Government authorities for proprietor, partner, director(s) or designated signatory
List of food types that are to be produced by manufacturers
Authorization letter from the manufacturer designating the responsible person and alternative responsible person, along with the rights granted to them, including helping the officers with inspections, collecting samples, packaging, and dispatch (for manufacturers of processors)
Analysis report of water that is used as an ingredient in the food from the authorised or public health laboratory to assure the transportability
proof of premises ownership. (a sale deed, a lease, a bill for electricity, etc.)
For the purpose of forming the firm, a partnership deed, an affidavit of proprietorship, or a Memorandum and Articles of Association may be used. (optional)
A copy of the certificate received under Coop – 1861 or Multi-State Coop Act – 2002 in case of cooperatives
NOC and a copy of the manufacturer's licence (mandatory for relabellers and repackers only)
The food safety management system certificate or plan
Milk source or milk procurement strategy, including milk collection centre locations (in case of Milk and Milk Products processing).
Raw material sources for meat and meat processing plants
Pesticide residues in water report from a recognised public health laboratory in the case of units producing packaged drinking water, packaged mineral water, or carbonated water.
NOC from a municipality or local government.
Form IX: Nomination of individuals by a company, along with the Ministry of Tourism's board resolution Certificate
Self-declaration of the number of vehicles for transporters
Form of Declaration - For Delhi or Himachal Pradesh.
FSSAI State Licence Registration Process
1. It’s necessary to check the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
2. After the successful assessment of the eligibility criteria, the next step is to submit the application form for the State FSSAI Food Licence. Every piece of information provided to the department must be correct and up to date.
3. Remember that generic names must be used for the products and not the brand name
4. All of the products mentioned in the licence must be approved in accordance with the FSS Act of 2006.
5. Finally, you'll be asked how many years you'd like to use. You must decide on an acceptable time frame for which you will require the licence.
6. Following the submission of the form, the prescribed fees must be paid either through a web portal or by submitting a demand draft to the FSSAI state office.
